Abrasive media blasting, also known as Sandblasting is a process which removes dirt, paint and corrosion from the substrate by propelling a continuous stream of media at the component using compressed air under high pressure. After the blasting process is completed the base substrate will have the perfect anchor pattern ready for a new coating.
Aqua blasting is a similar process to Abrasive Media Blasting except it uses high pressure water as well as compressed air. An advantage of this method is that the water forces the media to roll along the surface of the substrate, leaving behind a smooth and bright polished finish. This method is popular with classic car/motorcycle enthusiasts due to its effectiveness in restoring cast aluminium components to their former glory.
After the components have been blast cleaned they must go through our pre-treatment phase to completely clean the parts of any oils and grease. After the part is degreased we then apply a conversion coating, this helps improve adhesion of the powder coating to the substrate. Another advantage of conversion coatings is they dramatically reduce the rate of undercutting if the new coating is scratched or chipped.
Powder Coating is a solventless form of painting. The polymers, pigments and additives are all in powder form and are applied to the substrate electrostatically and then placed in a curing oven to make the powder flow and become one continuos coating. This eliminates the need for solvents, making the process more environmentally friendly. Thermal Spraying or Metal Spraying is mainly used for applying sacrificial protective coatings to ferrous substrates, but is also used to change the surface properties of a component for wear resistance or thermal conductivity. It can also be used to alter the surface dimensions of a part e.g adding material to pitted or delaminated substrates. This is acheived by propelling molten particles of a chosen metal at the substrate which then cools and bonds together. We can Thermal Spray a variety of different coatings including; Zinc, Aluminium, Copper and Bronze.
Alloy Wheel Refurbishment
If your wheels are looking worse for wear, badly pitted from corrosion, or even if they are buckled, dont worry we offer a range of solutions to get your wheels looking as good as new. First we check every wheel for buckles and repair once instructed to by the customer, then we strip off the old coating in a chemical bath, after this we blast back to the base substrate and inspect for damage. Light "kerbing" and pitting is repaired using a specialist filler, however some deep gouges may require welding. We also have the facilities to supply and fit/balance new tyres for customers if nessecary, and we dont charge our customers to remove/re-fit their own tyres when refurbishing their wheels.
Cast Iron Radiator Refurbishment
Do you have a cast iron radiator thats seen better days but too good to scrap? Then why not let us refurbish it for you. We will diassemble into independant panels, blast clean back to base material, then inspect for any damage or repairs that need to be undertaken. After this is complete your radiators can either be powder coated in the colour of your choice or polished to a stunning mirror finish. The next step is to reassemble your radiators with new gaskets between each panel, then we pressure test to garauntee their water tight.
